The repentance of the people of God is essential for God to heal our land and to prepare the Bride of Christ for His return.
“From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’” (Matthew 4:17)
“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore, be zealous and repent. Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Revelation 3:19-21)
Repentance is the doorway into His kingdom. Repentance thereafter is a precious gift from Him to cleanse ourselves as His Bride from our old sin patterns. When His people called by His name repent, it’s also the key step by which the Lord will hear from heaven, forgive sins and heal a land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Repentance causes God to intervene. The miracles in the Government of Australia in the past weeks may well be attributed to the inclusion of repentance as part of prayer and fasting.
As believers in Christ Jesus as our Lord, we are blessed with the indwelling Holy Spirit of Truth who is the Spirit of conviction as well as comfort. Repentance is God’s key gift whereby each of us can cleanse spiritually from old false strongholds that cause us to sin. The Holy Spirit speaking through Paul says: “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7:1).
The Risen Christ calls us not to be lukewarm, but to be zealous to repent, to “dine” with Him, to become overcomers who sit with Him on His throne.
I believe ‘dining’ with the Risen Christ means inviting His Holy Spirit daily into our personal or group prayer time, asking Him daily which old sin patterns we should now remove, deliberately deciding to replace any false strongholds with His Word, and then refocusing on Him from that point on as members of His royal priesthood.
That daily spiritual discipline of repentance will bear fruit. This will be seen in our life’s call, our family life and our relationships with others. We are to bear fruit worthy of repentance.
Your spiritual discipline of repentance during these 31 Days of Prayer, Repentance and Fasting will strengthen marriages, will strengthen the family, and will bring souls into the kingdom. Repentance emboldens you and me to stand up for Christ in an increasingly wicked world. As Australians repent, the Lord will hear from heaven, forgive sins and heal this precious land.
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the Sovereign Lord who wishes to spend time with us, ‘dining’ with us whenever we open our hearts to You. Through Your Holy Spirit show each of us, every day, where we need to repent to be more like You. May we be cleansed and ready as the Bride of Christ for His soon return. We ask that from this day You awaken us, our families and the Body of Christ all over the planet with a zeal to repent. Let this united effort across denominations be a model for other nations. In the Name of Jesus, bless these 31 Days of Prayer, Repentance and Fasting. Use them to bring Australia into Your destiny. May this island continent nation manifest Your prophecy that this will be a Great Southland of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
