Kurt Mahlburg’s Book Cross and Culture
The Canberra Declaration’s own Kurt Mahlburg released his first book in 2020 entitled Cross and Culture: Can Jesus Save the West? It is a tour de force revealing the monumental influence of Jesus on Western civilisation, the West’s present cultural and spiritual malaise, and how Jesus and His teachings provide the answer to the many challenges we face.
All of us sense that something isn’t right in nations like Australia. The chaotic events of 2020 have only served to highlight deeper issues that have long been lying dormant — whether our looming mental health crisis, deep political divisions, growing trends like censorship and superstition, or our desperate search for meaning.
Cross and Culture takes a deep dive into these issues in a way that both Christians and everyday Westerners can relate to. It is a timely book addressing concerns that everyone shares — but most importantly, it provides a roadmap back to sanity and hope.
“Refreshingly accessible, yet deeply insightful” is how Martyn Iles of the Australian Christian Lobby has described Cross and Culture. In its pages are stories of adventure, profound cultural commentary, and observations from the world of architecture, contemporary music, modern art, history, politics and more. All of these threads come together, revealing Jesus as the light of the world and the hope for us all.
Over 40 Christian leaders from around Australia have endorsed Cross and Culture.
Here’s what some of them have had to say about the book:
“I applaud Kurt Mahlburg on this landmark book.” —Margaret Court, Former World Tennis Number One
